l Payment
Korea is largely cashless.
Visa and Mastercard work in most places,
but a small amount of cash is still useful for traditional markets and small vendors.
Credit Cards
- Visa and Mastercard most widely accepted
- Amex works at major hotels and chains but not everywhere
- Bring a backup card from a different network, just to be safe
ATMs
- Look for machines marked 'Global ATM' or 'Global Service'
- Most local ATMs don't accept foreign cards
Currency Exchange
- Licensed money changers in Myeongdong or Itaewon typically offer better rates than at airport or hotel counters
Tipping
- Not customary in Korea
- Restaurants, taxis, and hotels generally do not expect tips
- Service charges are typically included in the bill
l Connectivity
If you haven't set up an eSIM or roaming before departure, the following options are available in Korea:
Physical SIM
- Available on arrival at airport counters and mobile carrier stores.
Wi-Fi
- Free Wi-Fi is widely available on public transportation, on campus at KUBS, and at major event venues.
